The UK has reached a record high in electricity imports from Europe.
New data from the National Energy System Operator (NESO) shows that net electricity imports totalled 26.3 terawatt hours from January to September, an increase over the previous record of 24.6 terawatt hours set three years ago.
This increase in imports has followed the opening of two new interconnectors, links that connect the UK’s power grid with continental Europe.
These additions have increased the total amount of power theoretically available to the UK by roughly one-third.
