Danish shipping giant Norden is bolstering its project cargo business with a pair of multipurpose vessels set to deliver in 2026.
The Jan Rindbo-led owner and operator, which entered the project cargo segment in 2023, will charter in the 17,500 dwt units, with purchase options attached to the deal, but also has a choice to add two more vessels in 2027.
The two firm MPPs will take Norden’s fleet of specialised vessels dedicated to transporting windmill components, large-scale batteries, industrial plant components and break-bulk cargoes to 45.
Norden said the new vessels would feature an innovative design with the bridge at the front of the ship for optimised cargo space and be highly fuel-efficient compared to older vessels.
“We are dedicated to becoming a leading project carrier and provide our customers with efficient shipping solutions and the addition of these vessels underscores our commitment to innovation and decarbonisation in the maritime industry,” said Thomas Mikkelsen, head of projects and parcelling at Norden.
