The Oslo and New York-listed offshore driller Borr Drilling has received a notice of temporary suspension of operation for three of its rigs operating in Mexico.

The company stated that the rigs in question are the 2017-built Galar and the 2018-built Gersemi and Grid jackups. Borr secured the initial contracts for the trio through its Mexican joint venture Perfomex back in October 2022.

The rigs, along with the Odin and Njord, were hired by Pemex’s integrated well service providers Opex Perforadora and Perforadora Profesional Akal. The contract for the five rigs is set to expire in December 2025.

Borr stated that it expects the temporary suspension to last for a period of up to March 31, 2025.

“Based on discussions with our customer, it is expected that some or all of these three rigs may be resuming operation prior to this date,” the offshore driller revealed.

Suspensions are not new to Borr as Aramco suspended the Arabia II jackup in November 2024 for a period of up to 12 months. In April last year, Aramco suspended the Arabia I rig also for up to 12 months.

The rigs have been under contract with Saudi Aramco since October 2022 and were supposed to finish their deals in October 2025.

In recent company news, Borr won a $58m deal for the 2011-built Norve rig from Vaalco Energy. The work will be done in direct continuation of the contract with Marathon Oil and is estimated to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
