On December 31, 2024, the 2014-built 161,870-cbm LNG carrier, Maran Gas Posidonia, completed the unloading of nearly 60,000 tons of LNG at the Fujian LNG facility in Meizhou Bay, CNOOC’s gas and power unit said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The vessel previously loaded the shipment at the Tangguh LNG terminal in Indonesia, in which CNOOC is a shareholder, its AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows.

Including this shipment, the Fujian LNG terminal unloaded 60 vessels in 2024.

CNOOC Gas & Power said the total amount of LNG received and unloaded reached over 3.7 million tons, an increase of 11 percent compared with last year.

Since its commissioning in 2008, the LNG terminal has unloaded 766 vessels, supplying more than 67.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Fujian province and the surrounding areas, the company said.

The LNG facility in Meizhou Bay currently has six 160,000-cbm LNG storage tanks and a regasification capacity of 6.3 mtpa.

CNOOC Gas & Power noted that it will start the construction of a new 270,000-cbm LNG tank at the facility this year.

In September 2024, the company won approval to build the giant LNG tank.

This 270,000-cbm tank will be one of the world’s largest onshore LNG storage tanks, such as the six existing tanks at CNOOC’s Binhai LNG import terminal in Jiangsu, and the five tanks at CNOOC’s Zhuhai LNG import terminal and the Ningbo LNG terminal.

After the completion and commissioning of the tank, the storage capacity at the Fujian LNG terminal will be increased by about 30 percent.

This will further help in guaranteeing the energy security of Fujian province and its surrounding areas, CNOOC Gas & Power said.

The terminal supplies more than 70 percent of natural gas in the Fujian province and is the only facility that provides gas for gas-fired power plants in the province, the company previously said..
