US President-elect Donald Trump has said that he doesn’t want his children to serve in the new administration.

Trump made the remarks on Wednesday during an interview with Fox News, following his election victory over his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris.

“I said, ‘that’s enough for the family!’ You know why? It’s too painful for the family, my family has been through hell,” he claimed.

Trump served as 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, and will serve as 47th president from 2025. His eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were his key advisers during his first term, frequently drawing criticism for their roles. In 2022, just as her farther started a third run for the White House, Ivanka announced she would be stepping back from politics to prioritize her children and family life.

“While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena,” she said back then.

Her decision came as Trump faced several federal criminal charges related to the recovery of over 100 classified documents recovered from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. Ivanka, along with her brothers Eric and Donald Jr., were also named in the New York attorney general’s civil suit, and face legal risks as part of the Trump family business.

Trump also said last month that his 18-year-old son Barron Trump played a pivotal role in his campaign strategy. At a campaign event in Arizona, Trump told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that he will give Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “influential” positions in his government if he wins the election.
