CMA CGM is being widely tipped as the European owner behind another mammoth ship order in South Korea.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Samho revealed yesterday an order worth $2.67bn for 12 LNG dual fuelled 15,500 teu ships, which brokers have said are being built for CMA CGM. The two yards have split the order taking six newbuilds each, all for delivery in 2028.

The orders take CMA CGM’s backlog of newbuilds beyond 1m slots, second only to Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) with CMA CGM on track to surpass Maersk in the global liner rankings soon.
